Union Pacific AC4460CW 6903 Leads A Manifest Train Through Davis, CA

We get a great variety of motive power through my hometown of Davis on Union Pacific. In February, I saw a manifest train with UP AC4460CW 6903 in the lead wearing Union Pacific's new paint scheme. Thank you to the engineer for a great wave.

A Union Pacific SD70ACe Leads An Auto Rack Train at Davis, CA

Recently, I saw a Union Pacific auto rack train being pulled by SD70ACe #8789. My hometown of Davis gets a wide variety of Union Pacific trains, as well as the Amtrak California Zephyr and Coast Starlight trains and quite a few Amtrak Capitol Corridor trains.

Railroads of Truckee by Andy Fletcher

Truckee played a key role in the building of the first Transcontinental Railroad and has played a key role the crossing of the Sierra by Southern Pacific and successor Union Pacific.  When taking Amtrak's California Zephyr, Truckee is a great station stop for great shopping, ski resorts and outdoor recreation throughout the Sierra.

Railroads of Denver by Andy Fletcher

Denver plays an important role as a railroad city.  Its location made it an important gateway to the crossing of the Rocky Mountains to the west.  

The Rio Grande connected Denver to Salt Lake City, while railroads such as the Chicago Burlington and Quincy and Rock Island connected Denver to Chicago.  Santa Fe continued to the southwest to Los Angeles.  Union Pacific, in the years before its acquisition of the Rio Grande and then the Southern Pacific as well as the Chicago and North Western, connected Denver to Omaha.  Chicago, Burlington and Quincy would become part of Burlington Northern, which would ultimately merge with Santa Fe to form BNSF.

Alaska Railroad is a member of ASLRRA and provides first mile/last mile rail service in Alaska. Alaska Railroad carloads are shipped at Whittier via Canadian National Aquatrain car float to Prince Rupert Port and Alaska Rail-Maine car float to BNSF and Union Pacific at Port of Seattle.
