Chicago Great Western Locomotives at Oelwein, Iowa

These Chicago Great Western locomotives move trains at Oelwein, Iowa.  The SD40 prepares to lead a train of hopper cars to the Twin Cities.  Chicago Great Western would become part of the Chicago and North Western, however however many C and NW lines were in better repair and were more direct, so much of the CGW is no longer in service.

A Look Back to the "ABC's of America's Railroads" by Andy Fletcher

This photo was taken in 1992. I was laying out some my drawing I had done as possibilities for a book my mom wanted me to write, "The ABC's of America's Railroads". I had hair and I had just started drawing trains to share with railroads and museums across America. Now 30 years later I have drawn about 4,000 train drawings and lost a lot of hair.
