Cheyenne, Wyoming has been a part of our railroad history since the state was crossed by Union Pacific in the 1860's to build the First Transcontinental Railroad. With the promise of the First Transcontinental Railroad, coast to coast communication was greatly accelerated, and such was the way of life in America.
Our proud railroad history can be found in Cheyenne and throughout Wyoming. One of Wyoming's museums to visit is the
Cheyenne Depot Museum which celebrates the history of railroading in Cheyenne, throughout Wyoming and the West.
Cheyenne is home to the Union Pacific Steam program. Union Pacific's Big Boy Locomotive #4014 is undergoing restoration in Cheyenne for the 150 year celebration of the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad in 2019.
Cheyenne also served as a western terminus of the Chicago Burlington and Quincy and was a significant terminal to Chicago Burlington and Quincy subsidiary, Colorado and Southern. Both of these railroads were key in the development of Cheyenne. Chicago Burlington and Quincy is part of today's BNSF.
