The Southern Pacific of My Youth Part 2

Lumber Trains rolled down the West Valley Line. Now part of Rail America, this line sent intriguing trains of box cars from the Northwest and loads of lumber from the Cascades. I stood with my dad behind the Straw Hat Pizza in Davis and watched many a southbound train heavily roll down this line. I counted box cars from right field as a ten year old playing little league, hoping a ball would not come my way until the train passed. This was the Southern Pacific of my youth.
