Great Northern Hustle Muscle SD45 400 by Andy Fletcher

Great Northern Hustle Muscle SD45 #400 was one of the first fallen flag locomotives I drew.  We had done several Great American Train Shows in the Bay Area and went on a great adventure to take my artwork to a Great American Train Show in Seattle just before Christmas 1992.
Up until that point, my most popular items had been the Southern Pacific 4449 and Cab Forward as well as several Western Pacific drawings.  On my trip to Chicago, I knew that Burlington Northern fans loved Burlington Northern artwork and it was at that Seattle show that I got to finally experience firsthand that my Great Northern, Burlington Northern, Northern Pacific and Milwaukee Road artwork was especially appreciated when I brought it to the Pacific Northwest.

Great Northern Empire Builder Passengers Pause at Havre, MT

The passengers aboard the Great Northern Empire Builder anticipate their journey over the Rocky Mountains at Marias Pass.  At the moment, the train pauses at Havre.

In the lounge car, passengers discuss the news from Chicago from a Tribune paper that is now two days old.  One passenger remarks, "It sure is pleasant to get away from it all and travel aboard the train," as he enjoys his cup of coffee.

To that, their is a pleasant agreement among the fellow travelers as they begin to discuss what         Glacier National Park will be like once they disembark at Whitefish.

Great Northern and Burlington Northern Inspired Me to Become a Railroad Artist

As a boy, I saw Great Northern box cars on freight trains as they traveled through my hometown of Davis, California. At my local hobby store, I bought a postcard of the Great Northern Empire Builder crossing Marias Pass. My dad said, "Someday we will go there." That led to many summer trips to the Izaak Walton Inn in Essex, Montana, where I fell in love with watching Burlington Northern trains and decided to become a railroad artist.

Trains of the West by Andy Fletcher

Railroads helped build our West.  Railroads such as Union Pacific, Central Pacific, Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Milwaukee Road and Santa Fe greatly reduced transit time to the Pacific and brought settlers who developed the land.
