New Haven Locomotives Move Trains at Hartford

These New Haven locomotives move trains at Hartford.  The RS11 leads a manifest train to Springfield and the GP9 heads to New Haven with a train of its own.  At the yard office, coffee is percolating and a few donuts are left for the nightshift who are just coming on to move trains on this crisp evening.

A New Haven Train Heads From Boston to New Haven

This New Haven train makes its way from Boston to New Haven, CT.  New Haven Railroad was an early pioneer in the use of intermodal service, as it made short, fast runs between New York City, Boston and many points between.

A New Haven Piggyback Train Heads for Boston

A New Haven fast freight makes its way towards Boston.  New Haven's fleet of locomotives and rolling stock in the McGinnis era were dressed in the bold "N over H" logo.
New Haven was an early railroad to try the innovation of piggyback service.  On its fast moving New York to Boston line, it was important to keep freight moving from city to city.

Drawing of the Day-September 5, 2015 Penn Central FL9

Yesterday I drew a Penn Central FL9 in MTA inspired blue and yellow.  Penn Central's FL9s were originally owned by the New Haven.
These locomotives, owned by Penn Central, were painted blue and yellow as they worked in MTA commuter service.  FL9s are well remembered by rail enthusiasts and historians.

Meeting a Fellow Artist Aboard Amtrak

A great thing about Amtrak is that you meet people from all across America and all over the World. Just outside of Truckee on the Amtrak California Zephyr, I met Stan, a fellow artist from Connecticut.
Stan had grown up along the New Haven Railroad.  It was exciting to get to draw him the historic New Haven logo he remembered from riding New Haven's passenger trains to New York and Boston many years ago.
