The Southern Pacific of My Youth

I grew up on Southern Pacific. I am not one who knows mileposts or names of subdivisions much, however, I followed the gray tunnel motors out my back window as I saw them roaming through Davis. I remember months when unit trains of pipe would roll through town. Early in my youth, the orange and white refrigerators of Pacific Fruit Express would mark the highs and lows of agricultural season. Golden Pigs would roll next to trailers such as Transamerica and Nashville & Ashland City, as a lumber train would roll down out of Oregon past Davis's still standing tower. This was my youth along the Southern Pacific.
