A Baltimore and Ohio train heads west from Cumberland to Chicago.  Pulling today's train is a F7 and a GP9.  As we give a wave to the crew, we see that the train has carloads of freight headed west for the Burlington Northern.  customtrains.org
 

A Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Train Heads to Lincoln

This Chicago, Burlington and Quincy train heads west to Lincoln from Omaha.  Today's train is on its way to Chicago.  Many of its carloads will continue west over the Rio Grande and onto the Western Pacific.

Maine Central RS11 11"x17" matted print and Bangor and Aroostook 11"x17" poster by Andy Fletcher

 This Maine Central RS11 pulls carloads of pulpwood to the paper mills in Portland, Maine.  The Maine Central was known as "The Pine Tree Route."  It's locomotives, freight cars and cabooses were adorned with the railroad's iconic Pine Tree logo.

Neighboring railroad, Bangor and Aroostook, was known for its Red, White and Blue State of Maine products box cars.  At Northern Maine Junction, Bangor and Aroostook and Maine Central interchanged freight.

 Louisville and Nashville SD40-2 #3554 moves a coal train from Corbin, Kentucky to Cincinnati.  Louisville and Nashville was known for its frugality which often led to motive power shortages.  SD40-2s such as #3554 were a welcome addition to the L and N fleet.

Happy Birthday to my Dad, Vernon

Happy Birthday to my Dad, Vernon.  Here my dad holds a trout he caught in the Gallatin River near Bozeman, Montana.  It was on trips to Montana with my dad that I first really started to railfan the Burlington Northern, which greatly inspired me to become a railroad artist. Thanks so much, dad!

Santa Fe's Super Chief passenger train was known as the "Train of Stars."  The Super Chief ran between Los Angeles and Chicago and was the train of choice for movie stars who traveled this route in the Golden Era of the passenger train.  Many Santa Fe passengers would ride the Super Chief to see if they could get a glimpse of Humphrey Bogart, Clark Cable or Lauren Bacall.

Davis, California Amtrak Station is Served by Amtrak California Zephyr, Coast Starlight and Amtrak CA Capitol Corridor Trains

 

Our Amtrak Station in Davis, California was built in 1913 for the Southern Pacific Railroad.  Through the years, it has served trains such as Southern Pacific's City of San Francisco and Shasta Daylight. 

Davis's Amtrak Station is served by today's Amtrak California Zephyr and Coast Starlight trains, 

as well as Amtrak California's Capitol Corridor service. 

BNSF 7423 Leads an Intermodal Train Through Escalon, California on BNSF Stockton Subdivision

I recently saw BNSF ES44DC 7423 leading an intermodal train at Escalon, California.  BNSF's mainline through Escalon is the Stockton Subdivision from Richmond to Fresno which is trackage of the former Santa Fe  Railway.
