Maine Central RS11 11"x17" matted print and Bangor and Aroostook 11"x17" poster by Andy Fletcher

 This Maine Central RS11 pulls carloads of pulpwood to the paper mills in Portland, Maine.  The Maine Central was known as "The Pine Tree Route."  It's locomotives, freight cars and cabooses were adorned with the railroad's iconic Pine Tree logo.

Neighboring railroad, Bangor and Aroostook, was known for its Red, White and Blue State of Maine products box cars.  At Northern Maine Junction, Bangor and Aroostook and Maine Central interchanged freight.

Meanwhile, a Boston and Maine GP38-2 leads a manifest train on its way to Portland.

This Boston and Maine train carries carloads of paper from Portland, Maine to Boston.  Today's train has freight from the Maine Central and Bangor and Aroostook.  We give a wave to the crew as the train heads on its way.

Bangor and Aroostook F3 and BL2 Train in Northern Maine

This Bangor and Aroostook train carries pulpwood and wood chips.  Bangor and Aroostook played a key role in transporting the forest products from Northern Maine by rail.  

This train is led by F3 and BL2 locomotives.  The BL2 was an attempt by EMD to give better visibility to crews when operating local trains such as this on branch lines, such its "BL" designation.

 This Bangor and Aroostook train carries carloads from of freight at Northern Maine Junction.  Today's train has its usual loads of freight from the Maine Central and Boston and Maine headed to destinations throughout Northern Maine.

This Maine Central GP7 heads south from Bangor with interchange traffic from Bangor and Aroostook.  Today's train carries carloads of lumber from Maine's pine forests and potatoes from Aroostook County.  At Portland, today's train will be interchanged to the Boston and Maine.
