A Tribute To BC Rail's Dash 8-40CMs

I always liked the Dash 8-40CM's of BC Rail.  For years, as a railroad artist in California, I only got to see BC Rail's Dash 8-40CM's in magazine photos.  Dash 8-40CM #4611 was the first locomotive I drew for BC Rail.
Years later and after the CN merger, while visiting Decatur, Illinois, It was exciting to see a CN coal train waiting in a siding.  There, for the first time, I got to see Dash 8-40CM.

BC Rail Lumber Train at North Vancouver, British Columbia

This BC Rail train carries lumber and wood chips at North Vancouver, British Columbia.
Through the years in my hometown of Davis, I have often seen BC Rail center beam flatcars carrying carloads of lumber from mills such as Tolko and Canfor.  Lumber carried by our railroads is important for building our homes, schools and offices.

Today, we see a pair of SD40-2's among the locomotives at the North Vancouver Yard.  One of the SD40-2's is still dressed in BC Rail's two-tone green paint scheme.  These SD40-2's will lead a train of empty center beam lumber cars to Prince George.
