Drawing of the Day August 22, 2015 North County Transit District Coaster F59PHI

Today I drew Coaster F59PHI #3002.  The Coaster is operated by the North County Transit District in Oceanside.
The Coaster and Amtrak's Surfliner both give San Diego area commuters a great alternative to driving.  Commuting by train saves fuel, eases congestion and allows us all to get work done while in transit.

Drawing of the Day August 14, 2015 Port Authority of Allegheny County "PA Train"

When is an F-Unit also a PA? When it is the "PA Train" of the Port Authority of Allegheny County! I just drew PA Train F-Unit #6690 for fans of the PA Train.
I read about the PA Train in Railpace magazine as a teenager and remember seeing its commuter trains side by side with Conrail and Chessie System locomotives.  I thought it would be a great Flashback Friday to draw PA Train F-Unit #6690.

Metra-Chicago's Commuter Railroad

Part of the thrill of visiting Chicago is seeing the brightly painted Metra Trains. I always enjoy arriving at Union Station and seeing the Metra locomotives hard at work moving Chicago's commuters throughout Chicagoland.

Chicago's Historic L Train-Truly a Chicago Icon

While visiting Chicago for Amtrak Train Days, I got a chance to ride Chicago's historic L Train.  I took the Kimball Line Train around the loop.  I truly got a feel for the downtown Chicago experience while riding the L.
When you visit Chicago, I recommend riding the L Train, if only to take it around the loop.  The views of the Chicago River and the downtown are spectacular.  Riding the L, you get to experience the train that we have all seen in movies and pop TV such as "The Bob Newhart Show."  The L Train is truly a Chicago icon.
