Iowa Interstate- Truly A Railroad Success Story

Everytime I head through Council Bluffs, it is exciting to see Iowa Interstate and its intermodal operations.  Iowa Interstate and its operations on the former Rock Island truly stand out among railroad success stories.
Iowa Interstate was one of the first regionals that I drew in 1992 as I began to draw America's railroads.  It is exciting to still see Iowa Interstate going strong over twenty years later.

Chicago Great Western-"The Corn Belt Route"

A mile-long Chicago Great Western freight makes its way across the Iowa prairie.  Today's train is under the command of five F-units.
Chicago Great Western became known for its mile long trains and its ability to work with what it had in a Midwest full of competitors.  Chicago Great Western, "The Corn Belt Route," eventually became part of the Chicago and North Western.
