Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Mount Rushmore SD40-2 #6359

The locomotives of Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern and Iowa, Chicago and Eastern celebrated the communities and landmarks that these railroads served. Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern SD40-2 #6359 "Mount Rushmore" was one of the first ASLRRA member locomotives that I drew in 1992.

This New Haven train makes its way from Boston to New Haven, CT.  New Haven Railroad was an early pioneer in the use of intermodal service, as it made short, fast runs between New York City, Boston and many points between.

These BNSF locomotives lead a general merchandise train across the Hi-Line at Shelby, Montana. BNSF’s Hi-Line was the vision of Great Northern founder James J Hill, known as the Empire Builder.

The Gulf Mobile and Ohio Ann Rutledge Departs Chicago Union Station

We board the Gulf Mobile and Ohio Ann Rutledge at Chicago Union Station.  As our train departs, we head out from the ready tracks and into the sunlight.  Up ahead is the cross over bridge of the B and O CT.  The pair of E7 locomotives will take us to St. Louis Union Station.

Union Pacific Big Boys

Big Boy locomotives such as #4014 were designed to keep the long trains of Union Pacific moving over Sherman Hill and the vast expanses of the West.  Whether it was perishables headed to Omaha and interchange to the East Coast or general merchandise headed to Salt Lake City and interchange to California, the Big Boy mastered the mainline of the Union Pacific.
