Illinois Central was created by the merger of the Illinois Central and Gulf Mobile and Ohio. Illinois Central Gulf linked the Midwest and the the Gulf Coast. Its brightly painted locomotives and rolling stock remain a favorite among many.

Zephyrs" for its signature train "The California Zephyr" that it
operated in partnership with Denver and Rio Grande Western and Western
The Elgin Joliet and Eastern remains a fan favorite. Its brightly painted locomotives and freight cars have inspired us for generations. As stated on its box cars, the EJ and E provided a key beltway connecting railroads, steel mills and online industries "Around, Not Thru Chicago."
